Winter Match Play League 2013
Regular Season: December 1st 2012 – February 28th 2013
Playoffs: March 1st 2013 – March 31st 2013
Registration for our annual Winter Match Play Championship is now open. The format will be a league again this year with flights of six teams playing a round robin. Each team will play a minimum of five regular season matches and the top two from each flight will advance to the playoffs.
Entry Fee: Only $199+tax per player (Payable by telephone with a credit card and must be paid before November 30, 2012)
Practice Round Rate: $39+tax throughout the regular season, play anytime you like, weekends or weekdays depending on availability.
No cart fee or any further payment is required each time you play a match. Complimentary food and beverage is available in the club house as usual.
1st prize will be an overnight stay in our Legacy Villas for four people. There will be runner up prizes, prizes for the winners of each flight as well as a special mystery prize for the winner of the birdie power rankings competition.
To sign up, please send me an email with the names, telephone numbers, email addresses and GSGA handicaps of both players in your team stating that you will call me to pay the entry fee over the telephone.
All matches must be played by the designated date on the league schedule. Only in extreme situations will an extension for a match be granted. The teams must contact each other to arrange a suitable date for play. In the event that a date and time for the match cannot be reached the following process must be implemented:
The second team in the draw (the team on the right of the schedule) must give their opponents three specific dates and times before the deadline on which to play the match. Two of these dates must be on a Saturday or Sunday. If the first team in the draw cannot play on any of these dates then they forfeit the match. If the second team in the draw fail to supply three specific dates and times within 14 days of the match then they forfeit the match. If this process is not carried out by either team then both teams forfeit and neither receive any points towards their league standings.
Format
Two player best ball match play. Match handicaps will be calculated by the golf professional and the team with the individual player with the best net score on each hole wins the hole for their team. Once one team is more holes up than are remaining to play that team is designated the winner and that would be the winning score. (i.e. Team A is 4 holes up with 3 to play, the winning score is 4&3) For handicapping purposes a completed scorecard for each individual player must be handed in to the golf shop following the match. Please be aware of your maximum score at each hole and pick up your ball if you cannot win the hole and have reached the max score for handicap purposes. (see www.gsga.org for further

Your team will receive 1 point for a win and ½ a point for a tie. (If the match is all-square after 18 holes then the match is a tie. Extra holes are not required until the playoff stage)

Georgia Golfers Will Soon Discover Why Lake Lanier Islands’ Course is One in a Million
Legacy on Lanier Golf Club Showcases one of the South’s Most Beautiful Courses While Golfers Showcase Their Talents during The $1,000,000 Challenge
Poised at the edge of one of North Georgia’s most stunning bodies of water – Lake Sidney Lanier, Legacy on Lanier Golf Club draws golfers from all over the Southeast with its signature blend of breathtaking scenery, 18 holes of challenging play, and dedication to facilitating an excellent golf experience for each and every player. Established in June 2009 inside the gates of the prestigious Lake Lanier Islands Resort, Legacy on Lanier Golf Club has since become a major contender within the Atlanta golf scene as word spreads of its excellent greens conditions and outstanding staff, led by PGA Head Golf Professional Brian Conley. As if all of this weren’t enough to attract both beginning and seasoned golfers to this exceptional Southern course, Conley and his talented staff have devised a new reason for players to blow the dust off their clubs and head on over to the lakeside venue as they invite one and all to take the shot of a lifetime during The $1 Million Challenge.
Beginning Saturday, September 24 and running through Sunday, October 23, Legacy on Lanier Golf Club will host Daily Qualifiers* marking the debut of the Club’s $1 Million Challenge. 25 players who shoot closest to the pin on Legacy’s Hole # 10 during the qualifying period will be invited back to take part in The $1 Million Challenge at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011. In order to qualify, players must pre-register in the Golf Shop when checking in for their round and tee-off before 2 p.m. The cost of the qualifier is covered in the standard golf fees, and no additional fees are required to participate in the $1 Million Challenge. Golfers who do not qualify through the Daily Closest to the Pin Contests will receive a “mulligan” as five Wild Card Players will be selected from a random draw of entries collected at the Golf Shop. Area golfers may also register at Edwin Watts Golf at The Mall of Georgia, as well as other local venues where a “Legacy on Lanier $1,000,000 Challenge” registration box is displayed.
“We hear time and again that people have been proclaiming Legacy on Lanier’s greens to be the Best in Atlanta,” explains Conley. “We’re very proud of that distinction and have designed The $1,000,000 Challenge in hopes of attracting even more Atlanta golfers to come experience our lakeside course firsthand while taking a chance at the shot of a lifetime. We selected Hole #10 as the staging area for The Challenge because the shape of the hole has already lent itself to several Holes-In-One since our opening in 2009. It's a beautiful 168-yard Par 3 over a small ravine with dramatic undulations to the left of the green. To top it off, the green complex rests on the side of a small hill - providing a natural stadium seating area for spectators to watch as our qualifiers take their shots at trying to win the Grand Prize.”
In addition to being afforded the opportunity to win a cool million, winners of the Daily Qualifiers will also receive two rounds of complimentary golf at Legacy on Lanier Golf Club. Starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 30 players will each have a chance to make a Hole-In-One for the Grand Prize of $1,000,000. Participants will be drawn at random to determine order of play with one shot at winning the money. In tandem with the Challenge, Legacy on Lanier will also conduct a Closest to Pin Contest for the lucky 30 participants, awarding the following prizes to the players with the Top 10 Shots:
