Registration for our annual Winter Match Play Championship is now open. The format will be a league again this year with flights of six teams playing a round robin. Each team will play a minimum of five regular season matches and the top two from each flight will advance to the playoffs.
Entry Fee: Only $199+tax per player (Payable by telephone with a credit card and must be paid before November 30, 2011)
Practice Round Rate: $39+tax throughout the regular season, play anytime you like, weekends or weekdays depending on availability.
No cart fee or any further payment is required each time you play a match. Complimentary food and beverage is available in the club house as usual.
1st prize will be an overnight stay in our Legacy Villas for four people. There will be runner up prizes, prizes for the winners of each flight as well as a special mystery prize for the winner of the birdie power rankings competition.
To sign up, please send me an email with the names, telephone numbers, email addresses and GSGA handicaps of both players in your team stating that you will call me to pay the entry fee over the telephone.
All matches must be played by the designated date on the league schedule. Only in extreme situations will an extension for a match be granted. The teams must contact each other to arrange a suitable date for play. In the event that a date and time for the match cannot be reached the following process must be implemented:
The second team in the draw (the team on the right of the schedule) must give their opponents three specific dates and times before the deadline on which to play the match. Two of these dates must be on a Saturday or Sunday. If the first team in the draw cannot play on any of these dates then they forfeit the match. If the second team in the draw fail to supply three specific dates and times within 14 days of the match then they forfeit the match. If this process is not carried out by either team then both teams forfeit and neither receive any points towards their league standings.
Format
Two player best ball match play. Match handicaps will be calculated by the golf professional and the team with the individual player with the best net score on each hole wins the hole for their team. Once one team is more holes up than are remaining to play that team is designated the winner and that would be the winning score. (i.e. Team A is 4 holes up with 3 to play, the winning score is 4&3) For handicapping purposes a completed scorecard for each individual player must be handed in to the golf shop following the match. Please be aware of your maximum score at each hole and pick up your ball if you cannot win the hole and have reached the max score for handicap purposes. (see www.gsga.org for further

Your team will receive 1 point for a win and ½ a point for a tie. (If the match is all-square after 18 holes then the match is a tie. Extra holes are not required until the playoff stage)

Beginning Saturday, September 24 and running through Sunday, October 23, Legacy on Lanier Golf Club will host Daily Qualifiers* marking the debut of the Club’s $1 Million Challenge. 25 players who shoot closest to the pin on Legacy’s Hole # 10 during the qualifying period will be invited back to take part in The $1 Million Challenge at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011. In order to qualify, players must pre-register in the Golf Shop when checking in for their round and tee-off before 2 p.m. The cost of the qualifier is covered in the standard golf fees, and no additional fees are required to participate in the $1 Million Challenge. Golfers who do not qualify through the Daily Closest to the Pin Contests will receive a “mulligan” as five Wild Card Players will be selected from a random draw of entries collected at the Golf Shop. Area golfers may also register at Edwin Watts Golf at The Mall of Georgia, as well as other local venues where a “Legacy on Lanier $1,000,000 Challenge” registration box is displayed.
“We hear time and again that people have been proclaiming Legacy on Lanier’s greens to be the Best in Atlanta,” explains Conley. “We’re very proud of that distinction and have designed The $1,000,000 Challenge in hopes of attracting even more Atlanta golfers to come experience our lakeside course firsthand while taking a chance at the shot of a lifetime. We selected Hole #10 as the staging area for The Challenge because the shape of the hole has already lent itself to several Holes-In-One since our opening in 2009. It's a beautiful 168-yard Par 3 over a small ravine with dramatic undulations to the left of the green. To top it off, the green complex rests on the side of a small hill - providing a natural stadium seating area for spectators to watch as our qualifiers take their shots at trying to win the Grand Prize.”
In addition to being afforded the opportunity to win a cool million, winners of the Daily Qualifiers will also receive two rounds of complimentary golf at Legacy on Lanier Golf Club. Starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 30 players will each have a chance to make a Hole-In-One for the Grand Prize of $1,000,000. Participants will be drawn at random to determine order of play with one shot at winning the money. In tandem with the Challenge, Legacy on Lanier will also conduct a Closest to Pin Contest for the lucky 30 participants, awarding the following prizes to the players with the Top 10 Shots:

Who can play?
The Summer Championship is open to ladies and gentlemen aged 18 years and above. Each team will require two players with handicaps. If you don’t have an official Georgia State Golf Association handicap, we can help you establish one through GSGA for $30 plus tax per person. We offer all match play participants a special guest rate of $39+tax per round to establish official handicaps and to play practice rounds throughout the regular season period.
The field is limited to 16 teams so please call the professional shop at 678-318-7861 to register as soon as possible. We will require names of both players in your team together with email addresses, telephone numbers, and handicaps. Maximum handicaps are 28 for men and 36 for women.
Fees and Format
Tournament entry is $199+tax per player. This includes greens fee, cart fee, gate fee, and range balls with complimentary food and beverage every time you play. You will play at least three matches in the regular season with more if your team makes the playoffs. Once your initial entry fee has been paid you pay nothing more for any tournament match. We are also offering match play participants a special guest rate of $39+tax per player for the duration of the regular season matches. That's $39+tax per player from August 1, 2011 to August 31, 2011 and you may play as many practice rounds as you like with no restrictions on tee times. A $55 saving over our peak time weekend rate ($94+tax) as a reward for your commitment to our summer league!
The tournament format will be best ball match play with ¾ of handicap differences allocated. All players will play the hole out themselves and the player with the best net score wins the hole for their team. This is the same format they play in the foursomes match of the Ryder Cup but with handicaps. All players must keep their scores and league handicaps will be adjusted throughout the course of the tournament.
There will be four flights consisting of four teams each. It will be a round robin format for the regular season matches with the top two teams from each flight advancing to the playoffs. The top team in each flight will play a runner up in another flight in the first round of the playoffs The Grand Final will be played on October 1, 2011.
Once the tournament draw is made, you will be required to organize and play your match by a specified date. The professional shop will provide you with the contact details of your opponents so you may coordinate schedules. All matches must be played at Legacy on Lanier Golf Course.

Legacy on Lanier Caddie Program: Billy Fuller’s redesign of Legacy on Lanier was a direct “throw back” to the Golden Era of Golf. What better blend of Billy’s vision with today’s innovation of Health and Wellness than experiencing your round of golf afoot with a professionally trained caddie? Unlike contemporary forecaddie programs, taking a caddie with you around the banks of Lake Sidney Lanier will enrich your health at an affordable price. Wellness Wednesdays are dedicated days where our staff of caddies are available on a first come-first serve basis. In addition, with proper advance reservations, our Golf Professional Staff can provide caddies for your foursome on any day of the week.
